September 28-30, 2008
2008 PA Greenways and Trails Summit
"Greenways and Trails — Your Path to Active Living" will take place from September 28-30 at The Inn at Pocono Manor.  The event will feature keynote addresses from national leaders in greenways, trails, and active living as well as classroom sessions with experts on greenway and trail development, management, advocacy, and promotion.  The summit will also include recreational outings, such as hiking, biking, ATV, and equestrian.  Click here for further information.

Transportation Funding Forum
Montgomery County is hosting a Transportation Funding Forum on October 3, 2008 to discuss how transportation improvements can advance despite inadequate state and federal funding.  The forum will focus on how this funding issue will affect Montgomery County’s effort to manage congestion, economic development, competitiveness, and quality of life.  Speakers and  panelists will represent their perspective on the issue, and participants will take part in roundtable discussions to talk about potential solutions.  The forum is limited to 150 people, and pre-registration is required by September 26, 2008.  The forum is free; however, no-shows or cancellation after September 26 will result in a charge of $25.  The event will take place at Presidential Caterers, 2910 DeKalb Pike in East Norriton from 8:00 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.  Participants are asked to arrive by 7:30 for registration.  A continental breakfast will be provided.  Click here to register or contact Matthew Edmond at 610.278.3742 or MEdmond@Montcopa.org.  For further information, contact Leo Bagley, assistant director, Montgomery County Planning Commission, at 610.278.3746 or LBagley@Montcopa.org.

Planning for Sustainability:  Green Codes and Planning
This two-day workshop will take place from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. in the Main Conference Room of DVRPC, 190 North Independence Mall West, Philadelphia.  The focus of the workshop will be to educate planning practitioners and decision-makers to develop policies, plans, and codes for enhanced sustainability in order to facilitate an increase in local adoption of sustainable planning practices.  Click here for further information.

Pennsylvania Planning Association (PPA) 2008 Annual Conference
The annual PPA conference will take place at Sheraton Station Square Hotel in Pittsburgh from October 12-14.  The conference will feature educational workshops, mobile workshops, special events, the annual Pitkin luncheon and lecture, an exhibit hall of valuable resources, and the annual PPA awards program.  Click here for more information on the conference and for the conference brochure. 
 
Pennsylvania Local Government Training Partnership
The Pennsylvania Local Government Training Partnership offers a variety of municipal training courses, workshops, and conferences.  This training, offered throughout Pennsylvania, includes a Community and Economic Development Series, Environmental Series, Finance Series, Local Government Administration Series, Planning Series, Public Safety Series, Public Works Series, Recreation Series, Tax Collector Series, and conferences and other training.  All training is conducted by experienced professionals.  Click here for the course calendar.  The Pennsylvania Local Government Training Partnership consists of the County Commissioners Association of Pennsylvania, Pennsylvania League of Cities and Municipalities, Pennsylvania Municipal Authorities Association, Pennsylvania State Association of Boroughs, Pennsylvania Association of Township Commissioners, and Pennsylvania Association of Township Supervisors.
