The distance between the Norristown and Valley Forge interchanges is almost seven miles. When an accident occurs, traffic is stuck on this stretch of the turnpike. The Lafayette Street interchange would give drivers an opportunity to exit the turnpike sooner. It would also allow ambulances and other emergency vehicles to arrive more quickly at an accident scene.
