The Lafayette Street Corridor Project is an excellent example of using transportation infrastructure improvements to spur urban reinvestment.  Urban reinvestment in Pennsylvania’s older communities helps lessen the development of outer suburbs throughout the state.

 

The economic revitalization of Norristown is consistent with Governor Rendell’s policies on brownfields, urban redevelopment, and statewide economic development.  The project complies with the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania Keystone Principles for Growth, Investment, & Resource Conservation and would fulfill most of the objectives.  These policies include:

 

• Redevelop first.

 

• Increase job opportunities.

 

• Concentrate development.
